Vibration Motor is a mechanical device to generate vibrations. The vibration is often generated by an electric motor with an unbalanced mass on its driveshaft.
When smartphones and pagers vibrate, the vibrating alert is produced by a small component that is built into the phone or pager.
There are many different types of vibrator motor. Commonly used cell phone vibration motor, massage vibration motor,pager vibration motor and smartphone vibration motor.
Vibration motor principle
There are there types of vibration motor.
1、Eccentric vibration motor (ERM) uses a small unbalanced mass on a DC motor when it rotates it creates a force that translates to vibrations.
2、Linear vibration motorcontains a small internal mass attached to a spring, which creates a force when driven.
3、Coin Vibration Motors, also known as shaftless or pancake vibrator motors, generally in Ø8mm – Ø12mm . Pancake motors are compact and convenient to use.
What makes a vibration motor vibrate?
A vibration motor is essentially a motor that is improperly balanced.
There is an off-centered weight attached to the motor’s rotational shaft that causes the motor to wobble.
The amount of wobble can be changed by the amount of weight , the weight’s distance from the shaft, and the speed at which the motor spins.

The industry standard is 100k cycles of 1 second on followed by 1 second off.

Advantages/Disadvantages of Vibration Motors
Advantages/Disadvantages of Coin Vibration Motors
Due to their more compact form factor, use Coin vibration motors for smaller devices or when space is a constraint. Due to their shape, these vibration motors are very easy to mount, since they have an adhesive backing that you can stick to your device. With their smaller size, however, vibrations are often not as powerful as eccentric vibration motor in the cylindrical form factor.
Advantages/Disadvantages of eccentric vibration motor
The advantages of eccentric vibration motor are that they’re inexpensive and offer relatively strong vibrations when compared to coin vibration motors.
Advantages/Disadvantages of linear vibration motor
Linear vibration motor offer the same advantage as Coin vibration motors, due to compact form factor and the ability to also install via an adhesive backing. While they are generally more expensive, linear vibration motor are very efficient and allow for more precise and complex vibrations for an improved experience.
Unlike eccentric vibration motor, the vibration oscillates linearly .
Linear vibration motor are a little more difficult to incorporate. Where eccentric vibration motor use a DC signal, Linear vibration motor require an AC signal, and the frequency range at which this motor resonates is a lot narrower, so it requires a more precise signal to achieve optimal vibration.
